I found you: Book review
Title: I found you
Author: Lisa Jewell
Genre: Thriller
I found you is a psychological suspense story alternating between the past and the present.
Set in the British seaside town of Ridinghouse Bay, Alice Lake, a single mother of 3 children, finds a strange man on the beach. He seems to have no idea of who he is and how he got there.
Lily Monrose is a newly married woman whose husband fails to return home from work one day. When she attempts to find him, the local police tell her that her husband had never existed.
The story rewinds 23 years ago. Gray and Kristy Ross are on their annual vacation with their parents at Ridinghouse Bay. A handsome man takes a fancy to Kirsty much to Gray’s suspicion.
Who are these people and how are their stories intertwined?
The author builds up the tension and suspense beautifully. Like an onion peel, the layers are gradually unveiled before the readers can get to the core. At one point I sort of ended up guessing the character’s identity. Still it was interesting to read on how the plot developed.
Lisa Jewell touches upon some really dark parts of the human psyche. She has also subtly explored the a type of amnesia called the dissociative amnesia. The characters are chalked with great depth, exhibiting each of their psychological scars. Showcases how events having occurred 2 decades ago weighs on the subconscious mind. It also depicts the importance of gaining closure.
A compelling read and a roller coaster ride. It’s a delight for Thriller fans.
