After her husband's death in an accident, Evvie Drake hardly leaves her house. Everyone including her best friend Andy think that it’s due to her grief. Meanwhile Dean Tenney, Major league pitcher and Andy's childhood friend is battling with a condition called 'yips' where he is unable to throw straight anymore and can’t ascertain the root cause. To escape the media hounding, Andy invites him to stay in the small town of Maine as a way to reset his life again.
Dean moves into the apartment behind Evvie's house as her tenant. The two of them initially strike a deal of not talking about her husband or Dean's baseball career. However as time elapses, the rules are broken and an unexpected camaraderie develops between them. Both get an opportunity to confront their demons and start life all over again. Will they make the best out of it?
Evvie Drake starts over is a heartwarming story which showcases the fact that life isn't necessarily a dead end with one tragedy or a downfall. It also emphasizes the importance of seeking help and therapy by needed. The author manages to convey this with a pertinent line in her book 'Your head is the house you live in, so you have to do the maintenance.'
Narrated in a compelling style, themes of friendship, family and loss are dealt with here. Readers are also introduced to the nuances of baseball. Charming and uplifting, this is a book that will melt the cockles of your heart.
