When I Received the Best Contributor award... Thank you DYRT!

Books have always played a large role in my life. Being the only child, they were my constant source of companions. I spent my childhood visiting enchanting lands with exquisite features on top of a magical tree, solving mysteries and spending  time with interesting characters at boarding schools.

After which I migrated to more serious reading- classics that explored some complex human emotions and relationships. Probably that’s what piqued my interest in psychology during my adolescent years.

Unfortunately due to academic pressures and inability to cope up, books and I had a temporary break until college. This friendship took its own time to renew.  However little did I realize that books would play a vital role in my professional life as well.

As a journalist who interviews authors, it’s such a pleasure to delve deep into these literary gems. Right from fiction, non fiction, mythology, sports, sports, thrillers, memoirs to business, I have enjoyed reading a wide range of genre. I have had some wonderful opportunity to interact with authors from different walks of life.

In 2017 my author cum runner friend Bijay Nair founded a forum for book lovers called Did you read today (Dyrt).  It’s been an immense pleasure to share reviews of the titles that I read and also engage in some lively discussion about books with other fellow readers.

During their 2nd anniversary meet on December 8th 2019, I was recognized and awarded for my contribution to this community. It was a pleasant surprise to receive this award and humbling to be recognized for those contributions.   Through this forum, I have made many friends across the globe and have had the opportunity to connect with some like minded people. I have also come across different genre of books that I managed to explore. The TBR ( to be read) list is never ending.

People often ask me how I manage to read so much. "Oh I am a journalist who interviews authors so I end up reading a lot," I say.  But I guess there is much more to it. It’s my passion as well. There isn’t a day that goes by without me skimming through the pages of a book. I could live without television but not without books.  Now that I am pursuing creative writing courses at Stanford university, reading different kinds of material enhances not only my writing abilities but my thought process as well.

Currently I am working on 2 manuscripts and hope to become an author soon.

Thank you DYRT for this award. Hope to read and contribute more titles in the upcoming years. May our tribe grow!

A certain saying goes,"There is more treasure in a book than one finds in a pirates cove." More genres to explore, more books to read, more authors to interview and miles to go before I sleep...
