Gold's own country

I received this via email. It stated that 'The financial crisis has not affected in Kerala yet!!!'

What a contrast. On one hand the world is bearing the brunt of economic meltdown with retrenchment in furious numbers. Millions are thrown out of their jobs. Pinch in the pockets are getting severe leaving many depressed and desperate. Consulting a shrink has become inevitable to overcome their loss in more than one way.

While the other side has ecstatic faces adorned and drenched with gold such that it makes one wonder about the almighty playing favoritism. One isn’t sure whether to feel happy on seeing such glitter while the other half portrays nothing less than jitters. Or to feel indignant about the unfair means life tends to offer many a time. Is it a cynical view or a realistic one?? Makes me ponder and wonder.

Meanwhile all this emphasizes the fact even more that it’s truly 'God's own country' or should it be rechristened as 'Gold's own country?'

Well-written Swetha. It is true that much of world-poverty can be done away with if the money-wise rich can abstain from unnecessary spending and wasting.

I often wonder if most people marry only to show off their wealth, status etc. Is there any guarantee that the amount of gold or diamonds a woman wears on her body when she goes for a traditional wedding, will get her equivalent love and respect from her husband? Then, why this show?

Thanks Ayesha.:-) Yes its so true that marriages are more of show and splendour of ones fortunes. It makes me wonder if such shallow people will ever realize the deeper meaning to life in general.

100 meters : Movie Review

Watched this inspiring Spanish film over the weekend on Netflix!  100 meters is a based on a true story of a man named Ramon who is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He is told that he will be able to even walk 100 meters in the next one year. Determined to prove this wrong, he takes up the challenge of doing the grueling Ironman race which involves 2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles biking and 26.2 miles running.  With the help of his father in law with whom he initially shares a shaky relationship with, he begins to train relentlessly. Ramon faces challenges on the way and is almost pushed to the brink of being bed ridden. He overcomes every hurdle with grit and a positive frame of mind.
